ST. CATHARINES, Ont.—Two Ontario men pleaded guilty last week to possession of property obtained by a crime and agreed to forfeit more than $1 million in American currency that was seized by Niagara Regional Police, Canadian officials reported Thursday.

Last Sept. 24, Canadian police spotted a boat suspected of being involved in criminal activity on Lake Erie. They alerted U. S. authorities when the boat left a public boat launch in Fort Erie and appeared to be heading to the U. S.

U. S. Border Patrol personnel found the boat, and as they tried to stop it, it headed back to Canadian waters.

Canadian officers arrested Bryson Villeneuve, 26, and Robert Hough, 28, both of Cornwall, after they were seen off-loading several large duffel bags from the boat. Police found $1,077,000 in American money in the bags.

Villeneuve and Hough were given a nine-month conditional sentence and were placed on probation for one year.
