Akron trailer home destroyed by fire
Updated: August 21, 2010, 3:44 AM
One trailer home was destroyed and two others sustained moderate damage in an early-morning fire Monday in the Golden Pond Estates in Akron, Amherst fire officials reported.
The Akron Fire Company responded to a 4:54 a. m. alarm at 7 Thistle Downs Lane, where the first firefighters arrived within three minutes and discovered the trailer heavily involved in flames that were extending to two nearby trailers.
Extra crews were called in from Newstead, Clarence and Clarence Center, and the mutual-aid effort brought the fire under control by 5:31 a. m.
The trailer owner, Ray Andol, told Akron Fire Chief Joe Hawes that he left home to go to the store, and when he returned, the trailer was on fire. The cause remains under investigation, and Andol was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, for treatment of smoke inhalation.
