LOCKPORT—David W. Stroup, 25, of Gasport, has been arrested on a charge of second-degree assault for causing multiple injuries to a 4- month-old baby left in his care last month, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The arrest followed an investigation into a report of child abuse Nov. 23 from Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, where the injured infant was taken. Stroup was arraigned in Lockport Town Court, where bail was set at $50,000. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.
