Former heavyweight boxer Joe Mesi reported Tuesday to Buffalo police someone stole $20,000 in valuables from his vehicle.

Mesi, a medical salesman, told Northwest District officers the thief removed a backpack containing medical supplies from his 2009 Chevy Impala, which was parked outside Millard Fillmore Hospital.

The theft, Mesi said, occurred at some point between 6 and 8 p. m. Monday. In addition to the supplies, the backpack also contained Mesi’s wallet, according to police.
