OLAF FUB SEZ: According to film director Woody Allen, born Allen Stewart Konigsberg on this date in 1935, “There are two types of people in this world: good and bad. The good sleep better, but the bad seem to enjoy the waking hours much more.”
ALUMNI ALERT—The Class of 1960 at Kenmore West High School, the first year that the school was Kenmore West, is planning its 50th anniversary reunion on the weekend of Aug. 6-8 and it’s a major celebration.
It starts on Friday with a golf outing, winery tour, a boat ride on the Spirit of Buffalo and the annual all-school night out tent party at River Oaks Country Club on Grand Island. Saturday sees a school tour and dinner in the River Oaks clubhouse. Finally, on Sunday, there’s a farewell brunch at the Buffalo Launch Club on Grand Island. For information, call John Vogelman at 823-4232.
PASTA PATROL—A spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p. m. Wednesday in Hilbert College’s Campus Center Dining Hall will help send Hilbert students on a service learning trip to Kenya next summer. Dinners are $8. Eat-in or take-out are available.
CHANGE OF PLANS— Kimberlee Livergood graduated from Maryvale High School in Cheektowaga last June and planned to start college this fall, but had to put her hopes on hold after she was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma. Although her father, Steve, has been working multiple jobs to make ends meet, Kim’s medical expenses have put the family in dire financial straits.
To help them out, family and friends are holding a benefit event from 4 to 9 p. m. Saturday at Villa Maria College, 240 Pine Ridge Road, Cheektowaga. Tickets are $20 and include food, soft drinks and live entertainment, including Parrot Karaoke with John Dudley, the Mike Hayes Band and Thunderbolt and Lightning. For tickets, call Mark Baldwin at 885-9020. For donations, call Nancy Bowles at 774-1289.
WRONG DATE—Niagara County Community College has issued a correction on the date when UFO expert Ted Phillips will speak on campus. It’s Thursday, not Wednesday, as originally announced. He appears at 7 p. m. in Room E-142 of the Humanities&Social Sciences Building. A voluntary donation of $3 is requested for Niagara Hospice. Philip Haseley, professor of anthropology at NCCC, will introduce Phillips and his research into physical evidence found at UFO sites.
Phillips, a field engineer and professional photographer, has been investigating UFOs since 1964 and has personally looked into more than 600 sightings. Currently, he is working on active UFO sites in Missouri, Arkansas and Eastern Europe.
WRAP IT UP—Autistic Services Inc. opens its holiday gift-wrapping booth today in the Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga and it could use some volunteer help between now and Dec. 24. The booth at the Sears end of the mall across from Williams-Sonoma is open from 10 a. m. to 9 p. m. daily. Proceeds will benefit the agency’s programs for children and adults.
