Sobriety checkpoints lead to numerous arrests
Updated: August 21, 2010, 3:21 AM
The night before Thanksgiving is typically one of the biggest party nights of the year, and local law enforcers took steps that resulted in the arrests of 13 motorists for DWI and drug-related offenses.
State Police worked with the Lackawanna Police Department to set up sobriety checkpoints on Route 5 near Ridge Road.
About 1,800 vehicles passed through the checkpoint over a four-hour period late Wednesday and early Thursday. Police issued 25 tickets for various violations and made a number of DWI-related arrests.
Patrols stationed at other locations also made numerous arrests. Among those charged during the holiday enforcement efforts were:
Donald G. Stachewicz, 30, of Buffalo, who was charged with aggravated DWI.
Robert L. McNamee Jr., 36, of Buffalo, who faces felony DWI and marijuana possession.
Terry C. Farrington, 39, of West Seneca, who was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.
According to the state police, 10 DWI arrests and three drug-related arrests were made during the holiday enforcement blitzes.
