NIAGARA FALLS—A Buffalo man was caught red-handed after robbing the M&T Bank branch on Main Street across from City Hall on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

David W. Anderson, 32, of Keystone Street, was charged with third-degree robbery and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning.

Police received a call shortly after noon about of bank robbery at the branch at 750 Main St.; customers reported that a stocky man entered the bank and handed a teller a note, then made off with a bundle of $50 and $20 bills—and two red dye packs.

Police Capt. Ernest C. Palmer, chief of detectives, said that no weapon was displayed and that after Anderson was arrested, no weapon was recovered.

Witnesses said the suspect drove away from the bank in a Chevrolet Lumina with a magnetic ribbon on the back and headed toward Third Street.

A few minutes later, state park police Sgt. John Mikula stopped the vehicle on the Robert Moses Parkway. After a short foot chase, and with help from city police Officer Kevin M. Maluchnik, Anderson was arrested, Palmer said.

The red dye packs had burst on Anderson’s hands, according to police, and the stolen money was found in his vehicle.
