The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s assistance to locate a boat that buzzed several recreational boats and fled apprehension Sunday evening on the lower Niagara River.

The investigative service arm of the Coast Guard is searching for the Scarab- type boat, which was operating at a high rate of speed near Youngstown at about 6 p. m. Sunday.

Officials reported that the 40-to 50- foot vessel maneuvered within several feet of nearby recreational boats and failed to stop for Coast Guard small response boats displaying law enforcement blue lights.

The Coast Guard is requesting assistance from anyone who took video or photographs of the incident.

Anyone who can help is asked to call the Coast Guard at 745-3328.
