A Canadian trucker faces a charge that he transported 243 pounds of marijuana over the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge by hiding it in a shipment of paper towels.

Harjinder Dhugga, 32, of Toronto, was arrested Thursday by U. S. Customs& Border Protection agents.

Officers at the bridge closely searched Dhugga’s United Statesbound vehicle after an electronic imaging device spotted an unusual shape in the cargo area, Assistant U. S. Attorney William J. Gillmeister said.

Dhugga, a Canadian citizen, faces a felony charge of marijuana smuggling. Officials estimated the street-sale value of the pot at $700,000.
