LIGHTEN UP—With the days getting shorter and gloomier, the Schofield Adult Wellness Center in the Schofield Residence Nursing Facility, 3333 Elmwood Ave., Town of Tonawanda, is offering a program called “Keeping Your Spirits Bright” at 1 p. m. Wednesday to provide information on Seasonal Affective Disorder.
A representative from Bry-Lin Hospitals will discuss what causes it and how to treat SAD and other mood disorders. Reservations are required. Call 995-3851.
NOT FORGOTTEN— Friends of Bernie Hitro are planning a memorial tribute meeting at 7 p. m. Thursday in the Town Boys and Girls Club, 54 Riverdale Ave., next to the GM Powertrain plant in the Town of Tonawanda.
Hitro died in Vietnam 40 years ago and was awarded the Silver Star. The friends committee is planning ways to honor him at Riverside High School, the Riverside lighthouse on Tonawanda Street and the Town Boys and Girls Club, where he was a member. WOMEN’S WORK—A second meeting of volunteers interested in Habitat for Humanity WomenBuild 2010 will be held at 7 p. m. Thursday in North Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Forest Road, Amherst, and additional volunteers are welcome.
The WomenBuild house, built primarily by women, will be a new home on Fox Street in Buffalo’s Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood. A major event in Habitat Buffalo’s 25th anniversary year, it will begin construction in May for completion in September. For information, call Margaret Talboys at 741-3079.
BOO!—You thought Halloween was scary?How about a haunted candlelight tour of an old mansion on Friday the 13th. The Town of Newfane Historical Society is offering one between 7 and 10:30 p. m. Friday in the historic Van Horn Mansion, 2165 Lockport-Olcott Road, Burt. Admission is $5. Cameras and tape recorders are welcome.
