OLAF FUB SEZ: According to poet Ezra Pound, born on this date in 1885, “Literature is news that stays news.”
FULL’ER UP—Instead of going door to door, youngsters will go from car to car at the annual children’s Halloween Trunk or Treat from 6 to 8 p. m. Saturday at Knox Presbyterian Church, Elmwood and Kinsey avenues, Kenmore.
Organized by the church’s youth department as a safe trick-or-treat alternative, it features cars with trunks full of candy for kids to help themselves. Families are welcome. Youngsters from preschool to 11 years old can take part.
HIGH AND DRY—A game of Towel Bingo, with beautiful bath towels as prizes, will be played Sunday in the Holy Mother of the Rosary Parish Center, 6298 Broadway, Lancaster. Sponsored by the Cathedral Ladies Guild, it starts at 1 p. m., with doors opening at 11:30 a. m.
Admission is $5 and includes a towel bingo board, a chance at a door prize, coffee and dessert. Food will be available for purchase. Extra boards are $1 each, or three for $2. Call 685-5766.
SAFETY FIRST—Worried about whether that odd piece of candy in your youngster’s sack is safe? Fear not. Just take it to Munroe Family Chiropractic, 6035 Main St., Amherst, from 8 a. m. to 7 p. m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, where free X-ray screening will be offered for all Halloween treats. Call 632-4476.
PASTA PATROL—The General Pulaski Association holds its fourth annual spaghetti dinner and theme tray auction from noon to 4 p. m. Sunday in Pvt. Leonard Post Jr. Post 6251, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 2450 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. Once again, it will be dedicated to the late Cheektowaga Town Justice Ron Kmiotek, a longtime director of the association.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12, for a dinner that includes meatballs, salad, bread and butter, dessert and coffee, chairwoman Jackie Schmid reports. Takeouts are available. Proceeds help pay for prizes at the 2010 Pulaski Day Parade.
REUNION PLANS—The Class of 1980 at Cheektowaga Central High School is planning its 30th reunion next July 24 in the Nickel Creek Cafe in West Seneca, and organizers are seeking classmates. E-mail the reunion committee at cchs1980@roadrunner.com with your name, address and phone number.
