An East Amherst woman was charged with first-degree identity theft for applying for a credit card using someone else’s identity, then charging more than $7,000 in merchandise at stores across Western New York between December 2008 and February, state police announced Wednesday.

Elizabeth L. Arnold, 37, of Charlesgate Circle, is also facing charges of second-degree forgery and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Her boyfriend, Mahmoud Mahran, 34, of Fieldbrook Drive in East Amherst, was arrested as well and charged with second-degree forgery and fourth-degree possession of stolen property. Investigators say Mahran used the credit card in the Town of Hamburg while with Arnold.

Arnold was arraigned in the Town of Clarence and sent to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $7,500 cash, or $10,000 bond. Her next court date is Aug. 4. Mahran’s next court date is July 17.
