Erie County sheriff’s deputies said a man fought with them as they tried to charge him early Sunday with driving while intoxicated.

David Todd Tucker, 43, of Pavilion, was stopped for speeding on Seneca Street in Elma at about 3:20 a. m. Deputies said that during the stop, Tucker fought with Deputies Kristin Rozycki and Tom Meredith, who forced him to the ground, cutting his head.

The Spring Brook Volunteer Fire Department treated Tucker at the scene, and he was then taken to Erie County Medical Center for stitches and tests.

Tucker, because of a prior conviction, faces a felony charge of driving while intoxicated, deputies said. He also was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
