Smokes, lottery tickets stolen in store break-in

Thousands of dollars in cigarettes and lottery tickets were stolen early Saturday from a store on Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo police said.
The owner of Elmwood-Delavan Food Mart, 905 Elmwood, told police a man broke the front window to his business about 6:30 a. m. Saturday and made off with $5,000 worth of cigarettes and an assortment of lottery tickets.
A police officer pulled up to the business in time to see the thief fleeing through yards and dropping the lottery tickets, police said. A vehicle loaded with cigarettes was later found on St. James Place and impounded for evidence.
