An attempted robbery in progress in Clarence on Tuesday morning led to damage to a state trooper’s cruiser and the arrest of two Buffalo men, state police said.

Troopers in Clarence said they responded to the incident at the Kwik Fill station at 9970 Main St., just after 8:45 a. m. The robbers’ vehicle was attempting to flee when it struck the cruiser before fleeing on Kraus Road.

The vehicle, operated by Theodore L. Calhoun, 47, was stopped a short distance away on Main Street near the State Police barracks. Calhoun and Tracy L. Sylvester, 46, were taken into custody.

Sylvester had been attempting to steal cartons of cigarettes from a delivery truck when he was approached by a Kwik Fill employee. Calhoun was charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to comply with a lawful order, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing, possession of burglar’s tools, attempted petit larceny and violating parole.

Sylvester was charged with reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing, possession of burglar’s tools, attempted petit larceny, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief.

Both were taken to the Erie County Holding Center pending court action.
