NEWFANE—A man who drove his car into a ditch on Wilson-Burt Road and then returned with a second car was arrested early Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said.

Robert H. Demorest Jr., 20, of Burt, was arrested after a deputy found him trying to pull the first car out of the ditch with a second car at 12:29 a. m., according to reports.

Demorest told the deputy he had driven the car into the ditch and then was given a ride home by a woman. He said he then returned with another car to try to get the first one out of the ditch, the deputy reported.

Demorest registered 0.13 percent in a breath test for blood-alcohol content, deputies said. He reportedly told the deputy he drank only one beer.
