A report of an accident and a complaint of an erratic driver led to the arrests early Sunday of two men on drunken driving charges, including one who was accused of driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Jonathan M. Moss, 22, of Ellicottville, was arrested after Erie County sheriff’s deputies, responding to a report of an erratic driver, pulled him over at about 5:21 a. m. on South Cascade Drive in Springville.

Moss was charged with DWI, failure to keep right and consuming an alcoholic beverage while driving. He failed a series of roadside sobriety tests and registered 0.20 percent on a blood-alcohol test, deputies said.

A few minutes earlier, deputies responded to a crash on Route 438, near Richardson Road on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, and arrested the driver, Alton M. John, 35, of Brant.

Deputies said John, who lost control of his vehicle and sheared off a utility pole, was charged with DWI.
