Casino funds appropriated
Updated: August 21, 2010, 12:13 AM
LITTLE VALLEY—The Cattaraugus County Legislature has appropriated funds from its casino revenue account to help increase public exposure to area attractions and to assist the Town of Allegany in bringing utilities to a development sight.
The Legislature last week approved a $200,000 grant to the Town of Allegany for an extension of village water and sewer lines along Route 417 to West Five Mile Road at Interstate 86 Exit 24.
Benson Development Co. requested aid from the Development and Agriculture Committee to obtain utilities that would serve a potential ambulatory surgical center tenant at the former Kmart Plaza. The grant would assist the town in construction of the lines before Dec. 31 to provide sufficient capacity to fuel the new development and nearby utility users.
Lawmakers also approved a $20,000 casino revenue appropriation to hire a Canadian public relations consultant, Recognition Strategic Marketing Communications, of Collingwood, Ont., from June 25 through Dec. 31.
The request came from the Cattaraugus County Tourism Alliance The firm will conduct market tests and assist in broadening media market coverage to enhance the county’s tourism image.
Members of the alliance are the Greater Olean, Salamanca and Ellicottville Chambers of Commerce and the Randolph Community Development Corp.
Lawmakers decided not to spend $6,500 in casino funds and postponed action on a contract with the Village of Cattaraugus for a feasibility study of a proposal to convert the vacant Cattaraugus Central School building on Jefferson Street into apartments.
