The Niagara Police Athletic League is changing the name of its Can/Am-PAL Basketball Classic tournament to honor its founder, Alan R. Elia Sr., who died in 2004. Elia founded the tournament 18 years ago to pit the best boys basketball players from Canada and the United States against each other. The Alan R. Elia Sr. Memorial Basketball Tournament is slated for Sept. 4-6 at Niagara Falls and Niagara Catholic high schools.
