The Niagara Police Athletic League is changing the name of its Can/Am-PAL Basketball Classic tournament to honor its founder, Alan R. Elia Sr., who died in 2004. Elia founded the tournament 18 years ago to pit the best boys basketball players from Canada and the United States against each other. The Alan R. Elia Sr. Memorial Basketball Tournament is slated for Sept. 4-6 at Niagara Falls and Niagara Catholic high schools. It is open to the first 16 boys teams, composed of players with at least one year of eligibility left. Call the Niagara PAL office (286-7038) or go to

Stu Boyer of Channel 2 and Denny Lynch of the Buffalo Bills will be the featured speakers at Tuesday’s 7:30 p. m. meeting of the Buffalo Bills Booster Club at Calvary Church’s Scaife Hall, 20 Milton St., Williamsville. A tailgate party will begin at 6:30 p. m. Call 685-3247.

HOCKEY: Cazenovia Hockey Association will hold open registration for new and returning players and coaches for the 2009-10 season July 8 at 984 Tifft St. Call Meg Gifford at 822-9586. TENNIS: The National Inner Cities Youth Organization and the U. S. Tennis Association will conduct summer tennis programs for all ages from July 8 to Aug. 20 from noon to 2 p. m. at Martin Luther King Park. Contact Pappy Martin (228-5307) or Joyce Nixon (912-4166).
