Interleague

Detroit 6, Chicago Cubs 5: Magglio Ordonez ended a career- long, 40-game drought without a home run by connecting for the go-ahead shot as the Tigers took their seventh straight victory, matching their season high.

Houston 5, Kansas City 4: Lance Berkman homered twice and drove in four runs, becoming the third Astros player to reach the 1,000-RBI mark, joining Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell.

Chicago White Sox 6, L. A. Dodgers 5 (13): Scott Podsednik lined a two-out RBI single in front of diving center fielder Matt Kemp in the 13th inning for the White Sox. It was the second game-ending hit in two weeks for Podsednik.

Minnesota 6, Milwaukee 4: Denard Span tripled, walked three times and scored three runs in his first game back from the disabled list, and the Twins finished the season series 5-1 against the Brewers.

Seattle 9, San Diego 3: Ichiro Suzuki lined the 29th leadoff homer of his career and the Mariners gave starter Jarrod Washburn his first win in more than two months.

N. Y. Yankees 11, Atlanta 7: Alex Rodriguez tied Reggie Jackson with his 563rd home run and Mariano Rivera earned his 499th career save to improve to 7-8 in interleague play.

Pittsburgh 3, Cleveland 2: Andrew McCutchen hit a game-ending bloop single to score Jack Wilson and give the Pirates a come-from-behind win. Wilson was 3 for 3 with a walk.

Cincinnati 7, Toronto 5: Joey Votto hit a tiebreaking home run among his four hits and the Reds avoided a sweep. Born in suburban Toronto, Votto came in 2 for 18 in five career games in his home city.

Tampa Bay 10, Philadelphia 4: Willy Aybar homered and drove in three runs as a replacement for an injured Evan Longoria and Jason Bartlett ran his hitting streak to a franchise-record 19 games for the Rays.

Florida 11, Baltimore 3: Hanley Ramirez hit a grand slam, and Cody Ross and Dan Uggla each homered for the Marlins. Ramirez has 13 RBIs in his last four games.

Texas at Arizona: The Rangers led the majors with 901 runs last year, but despite a better record this season’s club ranks 13th and is scoring nearly a full run less per game.

National League

N. Y. Mets 3, St. Louis 2: Johan Santana bested Chris Carpenter in a matchup of Cy Young Award winners, and Nick Evans hit a two-run double before a crowd of 41,221, the largest in Citi Field history.

Around the horn

Los Angeles Dodgers: Major League Baseball is cooperating with a federal investigation into where Manny Ramirez got the performance-enhancing drug that resulted in his 50-game suspension. The Drug Enforcement Administration is checking whether a doctor in Miami and his son were the source of the drug, ESPN reported Thursday.
