Boston 6, Washington 4: David Ortiz homered and got his 1,000th career RBI, Jason Varitek homered and traveling Red Sox rooters helped set another attendance record at Nationals Park (41,530).

Detroit 5, Chicago Cubs 3: Gerald Laird and Miguel Cabrera homered to help the Tigers win their sixth straight. The Cubs’ Derrek Lee extended his hitting streak to 21 games.

Pittsburgh 10, Cleveland 6: Zach Duke allowed one run in six innings, Adam LaRoche drove in three runs and the Pirates ended a five-game losing streak.

Toronto 8, Cincinnati 2: Aaron Hill, Adam Lind and Vernon Wells homered in a five-run first inning and the Blue Jays battered Bronson Arroyo for the second straight year at Rogers Centre.

Tampa Bay 7, Philadelphia 1: Matt Garza shut down the high-powered Philly offense and ex-Phillies slugger Pat Burrell homered for the first time in over two months for the Rays.

Florida 5, Baltimore 2: Hanley Ramirez and Cody Ross both drove in two runs and Ricky Nolasco had his fourth straight strong outing since being recalled from the minors for the Marlins, who won their fourth straight.

Kansas City 4, Houston 3 (11): Miguel Olivo homered on the first pitch in the 11th inning for the Royals, who forced extra innings by scoring in the top of the ninth.

Milwaukee 4, Minnesota 3: Jason Kendall’s two-out double in the eighth inning tied the game, and the Milwaukee catcher came around to score after two errors on the play. The Brewers improved to 5-10 in their last 15 games.

Chicago White Sox 10, L. A. Dodgers 7: Josh Fields snapped out of a slump by hitting two of Chicago’s season-high six homers. Fields entered the game in an 0-for-16 skid.

Texas 2, Arizona 1: The Diamondbacks’ Dan Haren allowed two runs in seven innings but lost for the first time since May 12, a span of seven starts.

L. A. Angels 11, Colorado 3: Vladimir Guerrero ended a 28- game home run drought and had three RBIs and Bobby Abreu added a homer and a double for the Angels.

San Francisco 6, Oakland 3: Nate Schierholtz hit a two-run homer to help Randy Johnson earn career victory No. 302 and the Giants captured the Bay Bridge season series for the first time since 2001.

Seattle 4, San Diego 3: Former Buffalo Bison Russell Branyan hit his 18th homer of the season in the second for the Mariners, a three-run shot erasing the Padres’ early 2-0 lead.

National League

N. Y. Mets 11, St. Louis 0: Fernando Nieve, called up from the Bisons on June 5, won his career-high third straight start with six scoreless innings and recent Mets call-up Nick Evans hit a two-run homer in the rout.
