The owner of Auctions International on Route 20A has a court date Thursday evening to answer charges that he has violated conditions of his special-use permit to develop a flea market and auction facility, the Wales Town Board learned Tuesday night.

Russ Scherrer is scheduled to appear in Wales Town Court, on Emery Road in South Wales.

Town Board members have expressed frustration with Scherrer and accuse him of storing too many vehicles on the site.

“Now he is trying to turn the site into a naval yard,” Supervisor Rickey Venditti said. “There is a large, 22-foot boat there now.”

In other matters, the board:

Commended highway worker Shawn Marcheson for his landscaping techniques at the Southwest Memorial Building on Olean Road in South Wales. Marcheson installed fencing and plantings around the building.

Announced that Birchgrove Landscaping will donate two trees to replace two that had to be removed from the Veterans Memorial Park next to the Community Center.

Will vote on an amendment to the special-use permit for Mike Lina’s Paving Inc./Promised Land Inc., at the July board meeting.

Learned from Councilman Bud Bogucki that the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will be nearby today, traveling through Elma via Transit Road to Seneca Street, Jamison Road and on to Knox State Park in Aurora, where it will be on display.

Officials said it will take three tractor-trailers to move the 8.5-foot-tall wall, which is a football field in length. The wall will be guarded by veterans and on display today through Monday. There is no admission.
