Chicago Cubs 6, Cleveland 2: Derrek Lee extended his hitting streak to 18 games with an RBI single, tying a career high, and the Cubs’ Randy Wells earned his first major league win.

St. Louis 12, Kansas City 5: Albert Pujols finished off a three-day romp in Kansas City with two homers and six RBIs, helping the Cardinals rout the Royals in win No. 2,500 for manager Tony La Russa. Pujols made a mockery of Kansas City pitching in his return to the town where he went to high school, hitting three homers and driving in 10 runs in the Cardinals’ three-game sweep over their cross-state rivals.

Boston 6, Atlanta 5: Nick Green homered just inside the right-field foul pole on the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth for the Red Sox. Braves manager Bobby Cox argued a non-strike call and earned his major-league leading 145th ejection. Hall of Famer John McGraw is second with 131.

Colorado 5, Pittsburgh 4: Clint Barmes homered, drove in two runs and scored two more as the Rockies completed a sweep. Since having their 11-game winning streak snapped, the Rockies have won five straight and they improved to 18-5 under manager Jim Tracy.

Chicago White Sox 4, Cincinnati 1: Mark Buehrle pitched seven shutout innings, his latest impressive showing against the National League, and the White Sox improved to 14-3 against the Reds in inter-league play.

Baltimore 2, Philadelphia 1: Brian Roberts had the decisive hit for the second straight game, a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning, and the Orioles completed a three-game sweep.

Seattle 3, Arizona 2: Tony Clark dropped a routine throw to first base, allowing Ronny Cedeno to score the winning run for the Mariners. Mark Lowe (1-4) pitched the ninth for his first win of the season.

San Diego 4, Oakland 1: Padres starter Kevin Correia carried a shutout into the seventh inning, combining with three relievers on a two-hitter. The right-hander retired the first 14 batters before Orlando Cabrera hit a two-out double down the right-field line in the fourth.

San Francisco 3, Texas 2: Barry Zito carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, and Randy Winn hit a go-ahead single in the seventh for the Giants.

Toronto 9, Nationals 4: The Blue Jays avoided the unsavory distinction of becoming the first team to be swept by the bottom-dwelling Nationals, getting five RBIs from Lyle Overbay and a solid outing by Ricky Romero.

L. A. Dodgers 5, L. A. Angels 3: James Loney hit a two-run homer that was upheld by video review, Clayton Kershaw pitched seven shutout innings and the Dodgers took the rubber game in the Freeway Series. Kershaw (4-5) gave up four hits in his longest outing since he beat the Florida Marlins on May 17.

Detroit 3, Milwaukee 2: In his second start against the Brewers, and with the same plate umpire as in his no-hitter in June 2007, Justin Verlander pitched into the eighth for the Tigers.

Houston 4, Minnesota 1: Wandy Rodriguez pitched seven strong innings for his first win in more than a month for the Astros. Rodriguez (6-6), who was 0-4 with a 6.93 ERA in his previous five starts, gave up only Michael Cuddyer’s home run through six innings.

Boston Red Sox: Starter Daisuke Matsuzaka went on the 15-day disabled list and could be sidelined much longer. “This is not going to be a two-week DL,” manager Terry Francona said.
