BOOK DISCUSSION: Area author John Koerner will discuss his book “The Father Baker Code” at 1 p. m. Tuesday, in the City of Tonawanda Library, 333 Main St. For details, call 693-5043.

OFFICE HOURS: Staff members for Rep. Chris Lee, R-Clarence, will hold office hours Wednesday in Royalton and North Tonawanda.

They will be on hand from 10 to 11:30 a. m. in Royalton Town Hall, 5316 Royalton Center Road, and from 3:30 to 5 p. m. in the North Tonawanda Public Library, 505 Meadow Drive.

VETERANS CONFERENCE: The 90th annual Department of New York Veterans of Foreign Wars and 84th annual Ladies Auxiliary Convention will be held Wednesday through next Sunday in the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, 2 Fountain Plaza. Nearly 4,000 veterans and auxiliary sisters from across the state are expected to attend. Further details are available at

BERRY SOCIAL: The Marilla Republican Club is hosting a Strawberry Social for Marilla Senior Citizens at 6:30 p. m. Thursday in the Community Center.

FIT FOR FIRE 5K: The Buffalo Professional Firefighters Local 282 will hold their sixth annual Fit For Fire 5K Race at 6:30 p. m. Friday, at the corners of Delaware and Chippewa. Registration packets can be picked up at 195 Court St. on Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. or Friday at 257 Franklin St., 5 a. m. to 6:25 p. m. Preregistration is $20 and $23 the day of the race. Proceeds to benefit the Buffalo Firefighters Guardian Foundation. For details, call 306-2166.

FAUNA OF THE DARK: Evangola State Park will host a Creatures of the Night walk from 8 p. m. to 9:30 p. m. Friday, at the park, 10191 Old Lake Shore Road, Irving. A guide will help decipher the cryptic sounds of the nocturnal residents that include owls, bats and bobcats. For details or to register, call 826-8895.

HAPPY HOUR: The Buffalo& Erie County Historical Society’s Party on the Portico happy hour will take place from 5 to 8 p. m. Friday at the museum, 25 Nottingham Court Drinks, hors d’oeuvres and mini-tours of the museum will be available. Babik, upbeat gypsy jazz, will perform. Cost is $15, or $5 for Historical Society members, and includes three drink tickets. For details, call 873-9644.

POINT-REDUCTION COURSE: A New York state certified six-hour point-and insurance-reduction course will be held from 8:30 a. m. to 3 p. m. Saturday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, 2950 Elmwood Ave., Town of Tonawanda. To preregister, call 636-4151.

HEALTH FAIR: A free Community Health Fair will be held from noon to 4 p. m. Saturday in the Gerard Place parking lot, 2525 Bailey Ave. More than 20 health care industry representatives will be on hand for the event including: Catholic Health Mission on the Move, Red Cross Greater Buffalo Chapter, Baker/Victory Dental Services, ECMC Immunodeficiency Department, NYSDOH, Alzheimer’s Association, March of Dimes, and WIC. There will also be games gifts and refreshments.
