Baltimore 5, N. Y. Mets 4: Aubrey Huff drove in the winning run with a ninth-inning single off Francisco Rodriguez, capping a two-run rally for the Orioles. Rodriguez entered the game with a 0.56 ERA and 16 saves in 17 tries.

Toronto 8, Philadelphia 7: Pinch-hitter Rod Barajas led off the ninth inning with a tiebreaking homer and the Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep of the World Series champs, who before the game but slugger Raul Ibanez on the disabled list with a groin injury.

Florida 2, Boston 1 (5q inn., rain): Dan Uggla and Ronny Paulino homered in the second inning and that was enough for the Marlins to avoid a sweep when the game was called due to rain.

Chicago Cubs 6, Chicago White Sox 5: Derrek Lee and Geovany Soto hit consecutive homers to tie the game in a four-run eighth inning, then Alfonso Soriano singled home the winning run in the ninth for the Cubs.

Houston 5, Texas 3: Hunter Pence led off the eighth inning with a tiebreaking homer and the Astros won their final meeting against the Rangers this season, they had lost the previous five.

Arizona 12, Kansas City 5: Chris Young had a career high four hits before getting hurt and Dan Haren earned his sixth victory in seven decisions to help the Diamondbacks beat the Royals by the same score they did on Wednesday.

Minnesota 5, Pittsburgh 1: Nick Blackburn pitched a six-hitter for his first career complete game while Michael Cuddyer and Brian Buscher homered for the Twins.

Detroit 6, St. Louis 3: Rookie Rick Porcello won for the seventh time in nine starts and the Detroit Tigers shook off an offensive drought with a four-run first inning.

Colorado 4, Tampa Bay 3: Clint Barmes hit a two-run homer to help Ubaldo Jimenez win his third straight start as the Rockies improved to 13-1 in their last 14 games.

San Diego 4, Seattle 3 (10): Adrian Gonzalez matched his career high with four hits, including a home run, and scored the winning run with two outs in the 10th as the Padres ended their major league-record interleague losing streak at 13.

L. A. Dodgers 3, Oakland 2: Orlando Hudson homered, pinch-hitter Mark Loretta drove in the go-ahead run and the Dodgers gave manager Joe Torre his 2,195th regular-season victory, passing Sparky Anderson for fifth on the career list.

National League

Atlanta 7, Cincinnati 0: Tommy Hanson allowed three hits over six innings, and also got his first major-league hit and RBI, while Nate McLouth homered and drove in four runs, sending the Braves to a 7-0 victory over the punchless Reds on Thursday.

Rhodes dies at 82: Dusty Rhodes, who helped the Giants win their last World Series title in 1954 with two home runs, died in Las Vegas at age 82. Rhodes played with the New York Giants from 1952-57, then appeared in 54 games for the San Francisco Giants in 1959.

Detroit Tigers: Placed struggling left-hander Dontrelle Willis on the 15-day disabled list with an anxiety disorder. The team plans to recall right-hander Alfredo Figaro from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday to fill Willis’ turn in the rotation.
