The vice president of the Chosen Few motorcycle gang should be released on bail while he awaits trial on racketeering conspiracy charges, a federal magistrate judge ruled late Wednesday.

Unless a higher-ranking judge reverses the ruling, Alan Segool, 48, of West Falls, will be kept under house arrest. He will be allowed to leave home for his maintenance job with the State Thruway Authority, U. S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy said.

McCarthy said “several” police officers who are friendly with Segool wrote letters to his office, advocating his release on bail.

Segool is one of 19 Chosen Few bikers who face felony charges filed against them in early May, in connection with a federal investigation into alleged violent acts against rival bikers. Agents from the FBI-led Safe Streets Task Force allege that the Depew- based gang was behind three attempted murders, two firebombings and other crimes, but defense attorneys deny the allegations.
