MAYVILLE—A Portland man faces various charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, following an early Monday morning collision at Mill Road Extension and Sea Lion Drive in the Town of Chautauqua, Chautauqua County sheriff’s officials reported.

Eugene H. Schwaier, 57, of Fay Street, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at about 2 a. m. at the intersection and failed to negotiate the turn there. He entered private property, struck a boat and a ditch embankment, police said.

Schwaier than allegedly fled the scene and didn’t report the incident. He was later found at his home by authorities.

Besides leaving the scene, Schwaier was also charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to reduce speed. He has a July 13 court appearance scheduled.
