The public is invited to a free daylong convention on literacy from 8 a. m. to 2 p. m. today in the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, 2 Fountain Plaza.

The Right to Literacy Convention will bring together educators, community leaders and concerned citizens from throughout Western New York and across the country to declare the “inherent right to literacy and justice for all,” organizers with Read to Succeed said.

Participants will call for changes to current systems and sign a declaration committing themselves to “100 percent literacy through 100 percent community engagement.” The convention will be sponsored nationally by Literacy Powerline and locally by Read to Succeed Buffalo, a collaborative of more than 70 organizations.

. The convention will be modeled on the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention for Women’s Rights and will include presentations of re-enactors portraying Frederick Douglass, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
