Updated: August 20, 2010, 11:44 PM
Millions of dollars in federal economic stimulus funds are being slated for transportation infrastructure improvement projects across Western New York.
In a news release Thursday, Gov. David A. Paterson announced the certification of nearly $8 million in federal money for bridge and road repair projects. They include:
$3.3 million that will go toward a $4.1 million project to replace the Cedar Street bridge over Tonawanda Creek in Newstead and Royalton.
$1.8 million to repave a two-mile section of Townline Road in Pendleton and Wheatfield.
$22,000 to replace guardrails at 50 locations in Niagara County to bring them up to federal standards.
$50,000 to improve storm water management along Tonawanda Creek Road in Pendleton.
$1.4 million to repave 5.6 miles of Hunt Road in Busti, Ellicott and North Harmony.
$1.2 million to repave 1.7 miles of West State Street from the Olean city line to State Route 16 in the city of Olean.
Earlier this month, Paterson announced that the state Department of Transportation will award $75 million in local highway and bridge contracts this year. In total, the region will receive more than $180 million in highway and bridge funding this year.
Meanwhile, Rep. Eric Massa, D-Rochester, announced several million dollars in federal economic stimulus funds for transportation projects in the Southern Tier. They include:
$589,000 toward completing the Genesee Valley Greenway in the Village of Cuba. The project includes improving trails, constructing two new footbridges, installing gates and signs, as well as building a parking lot and installing bicycle racks and new sidewalks.
$514,000 to enhance landscaping and install new light fixtures and sidewalks, sidewalk ramps and pavement marking in the Village of Andover.
