SUDDENLY IT’S 1777— Step back 232 years into history this weekend as the Hull Family Home and Farmstead, 5976 Genesee St. at Pavement Road, Lancaster, hosts the only Revolutionary War Encampment this year in Western New York. Warren Hull, who built the house around 1810, was a Revolutionary War veteran.
Reviving the hit and run warfare of the Niagara Frontier in those days are two sets of reenactors— Hoisington’s Rangers, a militia without uniforms that protected American sympathizers, and Brant’s Volunteers, ostensibly a Native American unit led by Mohawk chief Joseph Brant, but mostly irregular Loyalists who were unpaid and lived off what they looted.
Hours are 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. Saturday and Sunday, with a battle at 2 p. m. Admission is $3 adults, $1 youths 12 to 18, under 12 free. Saturday night sees an 1800s dance with music by City Fiddle with caller Jerry Brubaker. Dance tickets are $5. For info, call 741-7032.
DOG DAY—“Paws and Hearts” is the first dog walk fundraiser sponsored by Pet Connection Programs Inc., the Southtowns animal shelter. It takes place from noon to 5 p. m. Saturday at Knox Farm State Park off Buffalo Road (Route 16 and 78) outside East Aurora.
The afternoon includes a pet blessing, demonstrations, vendors, food for owners and pets and consultations with pet psychic Renee Karen. The dog-lover who raises the largest amount of pledges can win a package of $1,000 in gift certificates from local businesses. Registration is $25. Call 652-0192 to sign up. TAKE A RIDE—Set the GPS unit Thursday for 7 S. Main St., Gainesville, on Route 19 south of Warsaw, and home in an all-you-can-eat Swiss steak buffet dinner, complete with live music, at the Gainesville United Methodist Church. Doors open at 5 p. m. Tickets are $8, children under 5 free. Takeouts are 50 cents extra.
SHUFFLE AND PLAY— The Altar and Rosary Society of St. Stanislaus Church holds its Fall Card Party at 1 p. m. Sunday in handicapped-accessible Marian Hall, 389 Peckham St. at Fillmore Avenue. The donation of $2.50 covers the card game, cake and coffee. Other refreshments will be available. For information, call 852-2290.
TIME TO SHOP—The Lollipop Booth returns as St. Jude’s Episcopal Church, 124 Macamley St. between Southside Parkway and South Park Avenue in South Buffalo, holds its fifth annual Theme Basket Extravaganza from 2 to 5 p. m.
