Chicago Cubs 8, Milwaukee 2: Ted Lilly pitched effectively into the seventh inning and Derrek Lee hit a two-run homer as the Cubs closed to within a game and a half of Milwaukee in the NL Central.

Arizona 4, Colorado 3: Mark Reynolds hit a three-run homer and Felipe Lopez broke a tie with an RBI single for the D-backs, who notched their first series win since mid-June at Kansas City. Washington 5, Atlanta 3: Scott Olsen pitched into the ninth inning and newly acquired Nyjer Morgan had three hits for the Nationals.

Houston 7, San Francisco 1: Roy Oswalt pitched eight solid innings in the Astros’ victory, while Miguel Tejada, Hunter Pence and Jason Michaels supplied solo home runs.

L. A. Dodgers 7, San Diego 6 (13): James Loney led off the 13th inning with a homer to give the Dodgers a win after squandering a 6-0 lead. Manny Ramirez of Los Angeles sat the game out.

Cleveland Indians: Eric Wedge’s job is safe for the rest of the season. Cleveland General Manager Mark Shapiro said Sunday that the manager and his coaching staff would remain in their jobs with the last-place Indians.

New York Yankees: Starter Chien-Ming Wang went back on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain, and manager Joe Girardi said he’s not sure how long the right-hander will be out.
