Man charged with DWI, numerous other charges
Updated: August 21, 2010, 2:05 AM
A Cattaraugus County man has been charged with felony driving while intoxicated after Erie County sheriff’s officials said he drove recklessly, refused to be pulled over by deputies and was apprehended later after a brief foot chase.
The incident happened at about 3:10 p. m. Monday, when deputies were told that a vehicle was being driven recklessly on Route 400 in the Town of Elma. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, but the driver wouldn’t stop and exited at Jamison Road, according to police reports.
The driver pulled over on Seneca Street and was taken into custody after the foot chase.
Deputies David Makowski and Joseph Raczynski charged Paul Williams, 45, of Delevan, with felony DWI because of a previous drunken-driving conviction, authorities said. Williams also was charged with unlawful fleeing from a police officer, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation and several traffic violations, police said.
