There is no denying the use of hate speech
Updated: August 21, 2010, 12:24 AM
It is very clear to me that conservative program hosts do use hate speech. Bill O’Reilly last year claimed that the far left “wants to break down the white Christian male power structure.” Sounds like speech from James Von Brunn. Another example is Rush Limbaugh, who insulted some of our military personnel by calling them “phony soldiers” because they supported withdrawing from Iraq. Along with Julie Banderas and Brian Sussman, Limbaugh referred to President Obama by the term “Halfrican.”
Ann Coulter has a trove of hate in her speech. She said of John Edwards, “I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.” Of the 9/11 widows, she stated, “Women like Pamela Harriman and Patricia Duff are basically Anna Nicole Smith from the waist down. Let’s just call it for what it is.”
This is the tip of the iceberg of hate speech coming from conservative mouths, all of whom have either syndicated columns or broadcasting programs.
With regard to their ratings, that’s largely due to watchdogs like Keith Olberman, “The Daily Show,” “The Colbert Report” and Factcheck.org, which catch these people on their lies and hate.
