It is with great disappointment that I respond to the July 1 letter in which the director of Aspire promotes construction of a Wegmans store in Clarence using people with disabilities as a contention of support. As a former employee of Aspire, and a professional who has dedicated my career to servicing and advocating for children with disabilities, I am offended by his intention.

I would like to remind the writer as well as residents of Clarence that all of our children, regardless of the nature, extent or visibility of their challenges, are entitled to employment and education in a safe, healthy environment. Wegmans is a wonderful community partner and it is not the construction of a new store with added job opportunities that is the target of opposition. Rather, it is the proposed location for this store in a tight residential corner directly across from Transit Middle School that endangers the welfare of our children.

Please join me at the Clarence Town Board meeting on Wednesday in support of an alternative location for construction of Wegmans so all children and young adults can live, work and play in a safe, welcoming community.
