Kudos go out to the Erie County Legislature for upholding the county executive’s veto of the proposed planning board. The most salient point here, however, is that three legislators broke with party lines and voted with the majority to uphold the veto. This action could well serve as a model of cooperation to other governmental bodies—the Common Council, State Senate, Legislature and even Congress.

Political parties are never even mentioned in the U. S. Constitution, yet lately they serve only to try to divide us in order to keep them in power while preserving their member items, patronage jobs and many other perks. Political parties are killing this country. It is time that we citizens and taxpayers demand our elected “leaders” work in the best interests of the people whom they are elected to represent.
