LOCKPORT—Sentencing was postponed Thursday for DeQuana M. White of Niagara Falls, who admitted April 20 that he killed a woman during a robbery last year.

Although attorneys would not comment for the record, it appeared the defense was considering a motion to allow White, 18, to withdraw his guilty pleas to first-degree manslaughter and attempted first-degree assault.

Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III directed Assistant Public Defender Robert Viola to file any motions by July 14, and he rescheduled sentencing for July 20. Viola said he wasn’t certain he would file any motion at all.

White entered the pleas to avoid a possible life sentence if convicted of murder in the Sept. 5 slaying of Dorothy J. Banks, 35. He also admitted to taking part in the Aug. 31 shooting of a man in an argument over a dog. Murphy promised a 30-year sentence as part of the plea bargain.
