The exhibit “Haiti in Color” runs through Aug. 8.

Story tools:

When’s the last time you heard the words “reasonably priced,” “high-quality” and “art” in the same sentence? Well, there’s a first time for everything.

Haiti in Color, an art exhibit and benefit presented by Asakivle Buffalo Friends of Haiti, opens in WNED’s Horizons Gallery (40 Lower Terrace) on Thursday night. Featuring 50 paintings by Haitian artists—all for sale, starting at the bordering-on-ridiculously-low price of $75—the exhibit will not only promote artists, but will also fund their work and Asakivle: 90 percent of profits will go to the artists, while 10 percent will go to the organization, which is dedicated to creating a rich cultural exchange between Haiti and Western New York.

The art itself is vibrant, colorful and spans a wide variety of distinct styles from nearly realistic nature scenes to abstract faces and lines.

Haiti in Color opens Thursday from 7 to 9 p. m. in WNED’s Horizons Gallery. Admission is free. The exhibit will run through Aug. 8.

A benefit concert for Haiti, featuring a performance by the Trio Gitano, will follow the next night in the same place at 8 p. m. Tickets are $12.
