Roadhouse update
Just a reminder that the Buffalo Roadhouse Grill (1980 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda) is operating, as it has since March, under new and local ownership. The restaurant is now the property of native Western New Yorkers Jeff Lyons, P. J. Bryniarski, Courtney McInrow, Ron Notaro and Phil Mansfield, replacing the former chain operation Roadhouse Grill that filed for bankruptcy and closed abruptly in the fall of 2008. It’s operating with many former employees.
Hours of operation are from 2 p. m. until late Monday through Thursday, with dinner starting at 4 p. m.; a full menu is served from noon until late on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Specialties include the Roadie, a 12-ounce sirloin marinated in bourbon and served over a bed of Cajun onions; barbecue pulled pork; and chicken wing soup.
Wine widget
A contemporary solution to the age-old question of which food goes best with what wine can be found on your smart phone now, whether you’re in a liquor store, restaurant or simply snarled in traffic. You can start with either the name of the drink or the dish and get suggestions like matching salmon with Oregonian Pinot Noir; skewered chicken with Provencal rose; even toasted marshmallows with a German Late Harvest Riesling.
The mobile application is called Nat Decants Drink Matcher and can be used with iPhone, iPod Touch and the BlackBerry. It costs under $3 and is the creation of Natalie MacLean, a wine journalist who has a Web site at www.nataliemaclean.com . Visit the site for more information. Send local restaurant news to janiceokun@yahoo.com .
