Indigo Girls coming to UB on Monday

Story tools:

The songwriting partnership of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers is, by this point, one of the most enduring to come out of late-’80s/early-’90s rock. Both Ray and Saliers have worked with others on various projects; Ray has released four solo albums, and Saliers is poised to release one of her own. Both have also been active in support of various social and political causes over the past 20 years. Yet despite their separate lives, Ray and Saliers seem wholly comfortable with the fact that they do their best work together, as the Indigo Girls.

Time passes, tastes change, and yesterday’s record-label darling is today’s musician without a record deal. The Indigos have weathered all of this and, fittingly, ended up right where they started: as independent musicians. Last month, the group released a critically lauded new album, “Poseidon and the Bitter Bug,” on its own indie label. The record reached No. 29 on the U. S. Billboard charts, proving that the IG fan base is still both tuned-in and active.

Now, Ray and Saliers have taken to the road for the “Poseidon” tour. The trek stops for a gig inside the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts at 8 p. m. Monday. Tickets for the show are available through Ticketmaster.

The Indigo Girls have teamed with poverty-fighting organization Rock for a Remedy for this show, and will collect nonperishable/nonglass donations for the Food Bank of Western New York prior to the show. Additional information is available through www.rockforaremedy.org . —Jeff Miers
