The Allentown Association, in cooperation with a number of Allentown art galleries, has announced the creation of First Friday. First Friday is a community event taking place on the first Friday of every month and is aimed at offering a self-guided, fun-filled introduction to Allentown’s art, music and dining scene. All events are free and open to the public. The event will kick off at 5 p. m. and run through 9 p. m. on May 1.

Auditions

Road Less Traveled Productions will hold open auditions for its 2009-10 season from 6 to 9:30 p. m. May 4 and 5. Those interested should bring a headshot and resume and prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues. All auditions are by appointment only. To reserve a spot, e-mailrltpauditions@gmail.com.

Theater for Change will hold auditions, by appointment only, for actors (children 10 to 17 years old and adults) for roles in various projects throughout 2009.

No monologues are necessary; all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Actors will read from scripts provided. The first round of auditions will take place Sunday and Monday, with additional dates to follow. Actors are paid.

Neglia Ballet Artists will hold open auditions for its new production of “The Nutcracker.” Children ages 7 and up will have the opportunity to perform on stage at Shea’s Performing Arts Center with live accompaniment by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Theatre of Youth will hold an open audition from 6 to 8 p. m. May 6 and 7 in the Allendale Theatre (203 Allen St.). Men and women are sought for roles in the 2009-10 season. Those interested should prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues (no Shakespearean) and one song to be performed a capella to be considered for musicals. All auditions are by appointment only. Call 884-4400, Ext. 304, between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. Tuesday through Friday to schedule a time.

Thespians, Eh?, a student-produced theater, will hold open auditions for its July production of Tom Stoppard’s “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.” Auditions will be held from 6 to 9 p. m. Area Artists

Artists can now register to be part of the 2009 Buffalo Infringement Festival, an 11-day event providing artists the opportunity to present themselves to the public. The festival brings together eclectic, independent, experimental and controversial arts of all forms. Visual, theatrical, performing, musical and media arts are all welcome. No artist will be turned down. Applications for those interested are available at www.infringebuffalo.org. Deadline for registration is May 15. For more information, call 602-2464.

Villa Maria College is offering high school students a chance to compete for prizes, including two $500 program-specific scholarships, in the 15th annual High School Juried Photography Exhibition running from May 29 to June 12.

Deadline for entries is May 16. Contestants are asked to send mounted or filmed photographs to Laura Snyder, Associate Professor in the Photography Program, 240 Pine Ridge Road, Buffalo, N. Y. 14225. All photographs must be labeled on the back with the student’s name, home address, high school, grade and teacher. Submissions can be dropped off at the college’s Faculty Secretary’s Office.
