Season’s favorites

Story tools:

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is high on the holiday spirit. The musicians just released a fine new Christmas CD, “Favorite Holiday Classics,” including Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto,” Respighi’s “The Adoration of the Magi” and other gems. Some of this music might be heard at 10:30 a. m. today when, as part of its Coffee Concerts series, the orchestra performs “A Classical Christmas.” Music Director JoAnn Falletta conducts. The concert is a selection of surprise seasonal favorites from the Classical, Baroque and Romantic eras. “A Classical Christmas” repeats at 8 p. m. Saturday. The fun continues at 2:30 p. m. Sunday, when the BPO presents “Visit From St. Nick: A Holiday Fantasy!” Guest conductor Paul Ferington presides. Aiding and abetting him and the orchestra will be the Belles of Mount Mercy Academy as well as the Greater Buffalo Youth Ballet. Admission to today’s and Saturday’s concert is $25 to $57. Tickets for Sunday’s event, a family concert, are $12 for adults and $8 for kids. For more information, call 885-5000. — Mary Kunz Goldman
