- Keyboardist Ray Manzarek heads to Lockport today with Riders on the Storm for the Molson Canal Concert Series.
Brett Scallions, formerly the frontman with alt-rockers Fuel, has replaced the Cult’s Ian Astbury in Riders on the Storm, the touring ensemble led by Doors founding members Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger. Before you go poo-pooing the band’s choice of singer, take a listen to some live recordings of the new outfit streaming at www.raymanzarek.net , and then form your opinion. Obviously, replacing Jim Morrison is something no one could really do. But clearly, Manzarek and Krieger still have a vital relationship with the music they wrote, recorded and performed as Doors all those years ago, and Scallions has forged his own place in the relationship. You’ll hear everything you’d expect, plus a new tune or two, when Riders on the Storm arrive for a gig in Lockport’s Ulrich City Center, as part of the Molson Canal Concert Series, this very evening. Mo Porter and Chylde will open; the show starts at 5:30 p. m. — Jeff Miers
