The popular Civil War Event Series returns this summer to the Cattaraugus County Museum. Evening programs are planned every second and fourth Thursday, June through August, beginning June 12 with Earl McElfresh presenting “Mapping the Civil War: Lee vs. Sherman.”
All programs begin at 7 p.m. and are held in the museum in the Stone House, 9824 Route 16, Machias.
The full schedule features: Allen Hopkins on “Songs of the Civil War” on June 16; Rush the Growler presenting, “Music of the Civil War, 154th Regiment” on July 10; Craig Braack on “Prisoners of the Civil War” on July 24; Larry Kilmer on “Railroads during the Civil War” on Aug. 14; and Craig Senfield on “President-elect Lincoln” on Aug. 28.
A celebration of the 100th year anniversary of the museum’s dedication is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 7. Plans include Civil War brass band music by the Excelsior Cornet Band; a talk on Civil War soldiers by Mark Grimsley, a history professor at the University of Ohio; and a Civil War re-enactors encampment.
