Is a Summer Madness matchup coming between the Queen of Heaven Carnival and Shakespeare in Delaware Park? Could be.
When the Round Two in the polls closed at noon Monday, not only were those two event favorites still standing – having vanquished the Italian Heritage Festival and Taste of Buffalo, respectively – but the two contests easily received the highest number of votes.
The polls are being conducted to determine through your votes which event is the most anticipated of the summer. There are now eight events or concerts left from the original field of 34.
Taste of Buffalo seemed to have an insurmountable lead over the weekend, but the celebration of the Bard drew hundreds of votes Monday.
So, in Round Three, Shakespeare takes on the Allentown Art Festival – which bested the National Buffalo Wing Fest – and Queen of Heaven looks to take down the Erie County Fair – an easy winner over the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts.
On the music side of the bracket, hometown favorites the Goo Goo Dolls overwhelmed Sarah McLachlan to set up a battle with Aretha Franklin. The Queen of Soul squeaked by Taste of Country. And Justin Timberlake beat a Beatle, emerging victorious over Ringo Starr, to set up a confrontation with fellow pop phenom Bruno Mars, who beat Blake Shelton.
Voting for Round Three continues until noon Wednesday at buffalo.com
