There’s going to be a rumble! Celtic Thunder is on the way. The band, famous from public television, is on its Fall 2013 Mythology Tour.
Mythology doesn’t begin to describe it. The six dapper gentlemen perform solo with the group, sing alone and in groups, and are accompanied by a host of instruments such as strings, guitars, percussion, whistles and pipes. Sometimes they sound like a traditional Irish group, singing “Danny Boy” or “Seven Drunken Nights.” But they might just as easily launch into “Amazing Grace,” with beautiful gospel harmonies, or a song like “A Place in the Choir,” with shades of country and bluegrass. Their shows feature elaborate lighting and choreography, but the singers’ voices and personalities are what bring the house down. It’s genuine roustabout tavern singing, and it’s genuine fun.
Celtic Thunder rolls into Shea’s Performing Arts Center (646 Main St.) at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $18-$75 (box office, Ticketmaster or call (800) 745-3000).
