The art community is banding together for “Celebration of the Life and Work of Phil Durgan,” a benefit for the children of the artist who died last month. The event is from 4-7 p.m. on May 18 in Babeville (341 Delaware Ave.). Admission is free.

Slated to perform during the benefit are jazz pianist George Caldwell, Kevin Doyle and Why Not?; yogi and dancer Michelle Gigante in a new dance titled “For Phil”; sax player Steve Baczkowski; Mari McNeil and Michael McNeill; the Rearview Ramblers featuring Kate Panfil and Andrew Reimers; and Bourbon & Coffee.

Commemorative T-shirts and shirts emblazoned with some of Durgan’s paintings will be for sale, and a silent auction of donated goods and services from local businesses will be up for bids. Additionally, an art sale of work by the area artist, all priced at from $40 to $50, will be taking place – all cash and carry. Some of Durgan’s jazz-fueled and vibrant artwork will be on view.
