The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s new Know the Score concerts might be designed for folks new to classical music, but everyone can enjoy them. And because they’re brief events, without intermission, they can most likely fit into your hectic post-holiday life.

Next Thursday, Know the Score zeroes in on the colorful music of Aaron Copland. Copland, who spent some time here in Buffalo because of his associations with the University at Buffalo, dreamed of creating a uniquely American sound, and he did so with such beloved music as “Billy the Kid,” “Rodeo” and “Fanfare for the Common Man.” Music from those classics will be on the Know the Score program. The lovely and evocative “Appalachian Spring” will feature dancers from LehrerDance presenting original choreography. Afterward, stick around for a meet and greet with musicians and dancers.

The event takes place at 7 p.m. next Thursday in Kleinhans Music Hall. Tickets are general admission and are $25. For more information, call 885-5000.
