The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra has always had a close friendship with its neighbor on Symphony Circle, First Presbyterian Church. So it is only natural that the BPO, hearing that the church needs work on its E.B. Green bell tower, would pitch in to help. At 8 p.m. Friday, Paul Ferington will be conducting the orchestra in a fundraising concert at the church, a concert beginning and ending with Beethoven. The opening piece is the beautiful overture “The Consecration of the House,” and the concert closes with the euphoric Symphony No. 7.

In between will be music by Mozart, Faure and Elgar, as well as a thrilling excerpt from Wagner’s medieval opera “Lohengrin.”

Seating is limited to 750. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at the Kleinhans box office (call 885-5000) or at the door the night of the concert, availability permitting. Admission includes a champagne reception after the concert. For information, call 531-1390.
