Shock. That seems to be the common reaction when fans who haven’t seen John Fogerty perform in many years take in one of his present-day concerts. If you read the message boards, the fan reviews and the published critiques over the last year or so, the response is all but unanimous – no one can believe that Fogerty is staring down the age of 70. That’s because his voice, his guitar playing and his energy level conspire to suggest that the man responsible for so many of the most indelible American rock classics of the last 40 years has not even passed the gate of age 30 yet.

Fogerty and his killer band have been maintaining a rather frantic touring schedule since offering an incredibly well-received set at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May. The band hit Europe in early summer; is now in the midst of a U.S. tour that includes a stop at 8 p.m. next Thursday at the Erie County Fair; and will launch a coast-to-coast Canadian tour in the fall. Clearly, Fogerty is on a late-career roll.

Tickets for Fogerty’s Fair show are $45 general admission and $60 reserved (www.tickets.com, www.ecfair.org). Recently, Fogerty began offering downloads of his live shows, so if you’re curious about what he and the band have been up to, visit www.johnfogerty.com.
