If you, as a regional fan of heavy rock and metal, have felt a little bit underserved for a while, well, Friday night belongs to you. Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, the Town Ballroom (681 Main St.) will be given over to a psychedelic metal/stoner rock triple bill, headlined by the mighty Clutch, and also featuring relative upstarts the Sword and Crobot.
The drought has been a long one for fans of Clutch. The band’s leader, singer and guitarist, Neil Fallon, has been out of commission for a while, dealing with some fairly serious spinal issues, and prior to the recent arrival of “Earth Rocker,” it’s been four long years between albums. Those who have heard “Earth Rocker” seem to agree the wait has been a worthwhile one. This is prime Clutch, all Southern metal riffage and spit-snarl Fallon-isms, set to a lithe groove that seduces more than it bludgeons. Reports from the road suggest that Friday’s set will draw liberally from this incredibly strong new album.
Rejoice, earth rockers. This will be your night. Tickets are $22 advance, $25 day of show (box office, Tickets.com).
